TURTLE NESTING SEASON: APRIL 1 – OCTOBER 31

Special events permitting during Turtle Nesting Season is highly restricted on the beach. Large, multi-day beachfront events that have the potential to impact sea turtle nesting habitats are not permitted during nesting season. All beachfront events are required to obtain approval from the State of Florida and Miami Beach at all times.

 

 

**DEADLINES**

 

 

·         Deadlines to apply: 60 days for events on public property or 30 days for events on private property. An application fee of $250.00 must be paid upon submittal.

 

·         Deadline to submit all requirements: (inclusive of all City fees, staffing, and auxiliary permits are due 14 days in advance of the event date or load-in (when applicable). Late fees apply.

       

        5 Easy Steps to Apply for Special Events Permit:   

 

1.    REGISTER & APPLY

Submit an online application no later than 60 days in advance for public property/ 30 days in advance for private property or a $250 late fee will apply.  Applications received less than 14 days’ notice will not be accepted.   

2.     APPLICATION FEE

Pay the $250 application fee to register the permit. If the applicant is a non-profit, submit the fee waiver requirements (fee waiver letter, 501c, 990, tax-exempt). 

3.    SITE PLAN/ ROUTE

Submit a detailed site plan (CAD required) drawn to scale showing all event elements, dimensions, and area features. This determines City staffing/ services (police, fire, parking, sanitation), any City permits needed (building permits, temporary occupant load, road closures), and all additional fees (square footage, park user fee, vehicle access passes and beachfront displacement fees).

4.     COMMUNITY APPROVAL

Events must come before publicly noticed monthly community review meetings and/ or provide signature approvals from affected properties.

5.     FINAL REQUIREMENTS

14 days prior to load-in, ALL requirements are due. This includes all fees, insurance, indemnity, permit fee, security deposit, approved Building/ State permits City Service staffing and Community Review/ Sign-offs. If past this deadline, a late submittal fee will apply.

 

 DID YOU KNOW?  

§  Permits are allowed for up to 4 consecutive days or 5 non-consecutive days of the same use.

§  Properties may only apply for 5 event permits per year, except for approved Citywide uses.

§  Events on public property may not be primarily promotional.

§  Locations/dates are held on a first come first serve basis, except for long-term annual repeating events.

§  Certain time periods have restrictions for event uses on public property (e.g. Turtle Nesting Season, High Impact Weekend, and Night Time Work).

§  Events may not have Styrofoam products and must provide single stream recycling.

§  Events on public property must meet ADA requirements.

§  Events must comply with the City’s sponsor agreements.

§  No permits for residential uses are allowed.
